Minecraft – Main Concept and Gameplay
Part of the appeal of Minecraft is its open world gameplay. Although it’s simple, block-based design looks somewhat primitive, it actually belies a very complex game engine and offers a world where players can utilise the materials and objects they find to develop a wide variety of games, challenges, structures, tools, and more.
It is this open-ended aspect of the game which has given it broad appeal and which has led to the development of a number of mods, that include Minecraft betting games, as well as challenges that have gone viral, such as the race for the fastest Minecraft speedrun.
Given that many of these games have some kind of gambling element to them, are we going to see some kind of future for Minecraft within the esports industry?
Minecraft Esports – Is there a Future in Esports for Minecraft?
It’s tempting to think that as a game that has generally been designed as a player vs environment game, it wouldn’t really translate into an esports title.
However, there have been a number of third-party attempts to achieve precisely that, but without the game catching on as an esports, the most successful being the Minecraft Monday event, which lasted for a few months in 2019.
That said, there has recently been a spike of interest in reigniting Minecraft as an esports. The Noxcrew community has announced their second MC Championship, while esports organisation Method has expanded with a team designed for Minecraft esports.
While many critics point to the fact that Minecraft is not a game designed for PvP action and therefore not suited to esports, there are those that feel the open world and open-ended nature of the game makes it an ideal choice for future esports opportunities to be developed.
Could that lead to specific Minecraft betting games or even dedicated Minecraft betting sites?
Minecraft Betting – How could Betting on Minecraft work?
One potential way is for a Minecraft themed betting sites to come to the fore using a variety of play tokens and cryptocurrency. One site has already been developed that combines small-scale digital currency gambling alongside free tokens using Minecraft as its inspiration.
So, given that Minecraft is massively popular, with over 140 million people playing the game regularly, are we going to see a steady flow of Minecraft betting games, and will you soon be able to enjoy Minecraft gambling at your preferred esports betting site?
Well, to answer the first part of the question, there are already a large number of game mods available for Minecraft that allow players to play casino-type games. These have proven very popular as downloadable mods to trial on your game.
So yes, you will likely see plenty more Minecraft games based on gambling in the future.
In terms of its future as an esport, there is definitely a growing interest in perhaps developing tournaments based on some elements of Minecraft, although it is likely to be a third-party developer that takes on the task, given that the game designers show little interest in developing the game with esports in mind.
However, it is unlikely that you are going to find too many Minecraft betting markets available at your esports betting provider just yet.
But, the limitless possibilities that exist within this game mean that Minecraft betting should not be ruled out in the future, if a workable esports game can be developed around it.
