Deadlock Release Date – Does 2025 sound too optimistic?
As the community claws around for early access codes, the Deadlock release date remains a mystery. Let’s take a closer look at the Deadlock release date, and a potential release timeline for the game.
Could it be coming in 2025?
Deadlock Release Date: 2025 Sounds Optimistic
Out of the blue, Valve announced Deadlock back in August 2024 describing it as being “in early development with lots of temporary art and experimental gameplay“.
This confirmed the rumours and leaks which had been running rampant since early 2024. So far, only playtesters and friend invites have had the chance to play the game, stream it to the public and offer their own Deadlock game review.
As the community tries out this 6v6 MOBA hero shooter hybrid, the alpha playtest has players asking for the official release date. Rumors have it that an official launch date could be planned for some time in 2025, but nothing is certain.
Notably, Valve has been radio silent when it comes to any Deadlock release pricing. However, we’d like to argue that Deadlock doesn’t need a release date, not for a while at least.
Early Access and learn from Fortnite
When it comes to the Deadlock release date, Valve might want to take a note from Epic Games and their approach to Fortnite. Released to the public as Early Access in 2016/17, Fortnite only left Early Access after three years in 2020. By doing so, Epic Games had every liberty to make sweeping changes to the game and keep it free and completely open to the public.
It was this period of Early Access which contributed to Fortnite being a cultural phenomenon.
Bearing this in mind, we expect the Early Access time to take a while and for Valve to make Deadlock open to the public soon. Meanwhile, for those asking if Deadlock is free to play, the likelihood is that it will be.
Valve won’t rush Deadlock’s Release
Another reason why we think Deadlock will remain in Early Access for a while is Valve’s reputation for taking their time with content updates.
While Counter-Strike 2 patiently gathers dust and Dota enjoys its first new hero release in 2 and a half years, there are concerns over the development timeline for Deadlock.
While we’re certain that Deadlock tournaments will kick off as the hype sparks as with every new esports title, the spark will quickly die without fresh content and public access.
Of course, while it’s essential to take the time necessary to craft a balanced title, Valve needs to strike a balance by keeping things spicy up until the Deadlock game release date and beyond.
