What is the LCK Spring Split 2022?
The LCK Spring Split 2022 is the first split of the second year of Korea’s professional League of Legends league under a partnership. Korea was the last of the four major regions (LPL, LEC, LCK and LCS) to become a franchise.
In the last decade, the LCK was considered one of, if not the most competitive LoL tournaments in the world. Every year, new superstars rise from the Korean league, as youngsters take on the veterans to see who are the stronger players.
The winner of the playoffs will become the LCK Spring Split 2022 champion and will qualify for the Mid-Season Invitational, the first international tournament of the 2022 competitive season.
LCK Spring Split Schedule for 2022
LCK Spring Split officially starts on Jan. 12 and finishes on Mar. 2o, 2022, with a total of 9 weeks of action. There is a break during the first week of February, due to the Lunar New Year. Aside from that, there is LCK action every single week during these two months, from Wednesday to Sunday, with two series played every day.
As for the LCK Spring Playoffs, the tournament starts almost right after the end of the regular split. Starting from Mar. 23, the LCK will have four days of play day until Mar. 27, then the final will be played on Apr. 02 to close the spring split.

Spring Split 2022 Format
The LCK has a format similar to the LPL (Chinese League), where teams will face each other in Best-of-3 series. The difference with the LPL, however, is that the LCK will have a double robin and at the end of it the top 6 teams in the standings will qualify for the LCK Spring Playoffs.
In the playoffs, the teams will compete in a single elimination bracket. The top two seeds will receive a bye to the semifinals, while the other four will face in the quarterfinals. #6 will go up against #3, while #5 will face #4. The winners of these matches will advance to the semis, where the #1 seed will choose their opponent, with #2 choosing the remaining team. From there, it’s pretty straightforward: who wins the matches advances. In the LCK Spring Playoff Finals, the winner will become Champions and represent Korea at MSI 2022.
Contrary to the western leagues, the Korean League also gives Championship points to the playoff participants. The number 1 team will earn 90 points, the second 70 and the third 50. 4th, 5th and 6th will respectively earn 30, 20 and 10 points. These scores will matter for the Summer Championship, as they will be used to determine who can go to the Worlds Championship.
Who are the LCK Spring Favorites?
In the last few years, the LCK has always been dominated by the same organizations. Gen.G Esports, T1, DAMWON Kia were the three teams to watch out for every split, as they would be the big contenders for the top of the standings.
Nonetheless, we also saw the rise of newer teams that were able to give a hard time to the top dogs. Teams like Hanwha Life Esports and Nongshim RedForce were able to stay in the top half of the league for the majority of the time.
With that being said, however, the LCK Spring Favorites are still the top 3 teams Gen.G Esports, T1 and DAMWON Kia. Considering their last Worlds’ performance and they upgraded and changes all the organizations made to their rosters, it should be pretty straightforward to know that they are still the best in town.

What about the LCK Underdogs?
In such a top-heavy league, the mid-tier and bottom teams need to battle out for the remaining spot for playoffs. This year, the competitive level has gone up quite a lot, considering that a lot of academy players have been released by organizations to play as starters in other teams.
As a result, the battle for playoffs has become seriously close and it’s really hard to say who can make it out on top. The LCK “underdogs should be teams that have the potential to perform well but they might not be as consistent compared to the top teams.
For this LCK Spring Split 2022, the two underdogs are KT Rolster and DRX. Both teams have strong veteran players who haven’t performed as well last year and they are looking for revenge. Not only that, but also have some young talent that wants to show esports fans that they are worthy of a starting spot. Watch out for these two teams.
