What is the LEC Spring Split 2022?
The LEC Spring Split 2022 is the first split of the fourth year of Europe’s rebranded professional League of Legends league. The winner of the playoffs will become the LEC Spring Split 2022 champion and will qualify for the Mid-Season Invitational, the first international tournament of the 2022 competitive season.
The LEC is considered one of the four major tournaments in LoL Esports and one of the most long-lasting competitions in the world. Every year, there are at least three LEC teams that are sent to the Worlds Championship, but the LEC hasn’t been able to win a title yet.
LEC Spring Split Schedule for 2022
LEC Spring Split officially starts on Jan. 14 and finishes on Mar. 6, 2022, with a total of 8 weeks of action. There are no breaks during the tournament, as teams will face each other every week, on three match days: Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
As for the LEC Spring Playoffs, there isn’t a confirmed date yet. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the organizers will likely adjust the schedule based on the situation, but it is expected to start around some days after the end of the regular split. In 2021, the split ended on Mar. 14 with playoffs starting on Mar. 26. We can expect the LEC to have a 10 days to 2 weeks break, so the 2022 playoffs will likely start around Mar. 20.
Spring Split 2022 Format
The LEC has the same format as the League Championship Series (LCS). 10 teams participate to play in a double round robin best-of-one games, after which the top six teams will qualify for the playoffs.
Despite having the same format for the regular split, the European League has some differences in the playoffs format. The top four teams are placed in the winners’ bracket, with 5th and 6th fighting in Round 1 of the losers’ bracket. The winners in the upper bracket will go directly to semifinals, while the losing teams will have to go through the lower bracket, and will have to play more games to get to the Finals.
The winners of the tournament will become the LCS Spring Split 2022 Champions and quality for MSI.

Who are the LEC Spring Favorites?
In the last few years, we saw the rise of new teams that were able to fight against the veteran organizations of the LEC, namely G2 Esports and Fnatic. Teams like Rogue, MAD Lions have been the main contenders from last year’s season. Despite the roster changes, we can expect more or less the same teams to be at the top of the LEC standings, with the addition of Team Vitality, who put together a super roster of talented players.

What about the LEC Underdogs?
There is usually quite a substantial gap between the top teams and the bottom teams from the LEC. Nevertheless, there are teams who do have high potential and can sometimes win some unexpected series, especially when it comes to Bo1 matches.
Nonetheless, in order to stay in the higher standings of the LEC, consistency is key. With this in mind, the LEC “underdogs” are the ones that shouldn’t have problems making it to the top 6 of the league, but they can also occasionally beat the best teams. In 2022, the two underdogs are Misfits Gaming and Excel Esports: make sure to watch out for these two, as they might surprise you.
