With games getting bigger and bigger, it’s not enough to be able to just run the game, you’ll need the storage. So how many GB is Fortnite? Even if you’ve installed Fortnite before but took some time away, you’d be surprised how many updates can push the game’s file size up.
How many GB is Fortnite on PC and Mac?
For creative mode, its recommended that you save roughly 50-60 Gigabytes of storage. However, for standard Fortnite play, you only need to save about 26GB of space.
Fortnite Console Space
- PlayStation 5: The game takes up approximately 18 GB.
- PlayStation 4: Expect to use around 34 GB.
- Xbox Series X/S: The game size is about 22 GB.
- Xbox One: Similar to PS4, it’s around 34 GB.
It’s surprising that the older versions of Fortnite have larger file sizes but this is likely because the jump to Unreal Engine 5 allowed for some optimizations for the newer hardware that didn’t backdate to last gen systems. This change could be frustrating but it was necessary to keep Fortnite tournaments and all other games running smoothly.
Fortnite on Mobile
- iOS: Fortnite is currently not available on the App Store due to legal disputes, but it previously required around 8 GB.
- Android: The game requires approximately 7.5 GB.
The best Fortnite players in Europe need not despair though. The game will be returning to iOS in the EU as early as September 2024. On release day, we can expect a similar file size to the previous 8GB. Take our prediction with a grain of salt though, none of this has been confirmed.
Managing Storage
Having huge files on your device can cause it to run slowly or drop FPS due to it struggling to keep up with the game. To ensure smooth gameplay, keep some additional space free for updates and patches so you don’t miss out on anything new. Regularly clearing cache and unused apps can help manage storage effectively.
