LPL 2023 Spring Split Overview

The LPL 2023 season will mark the 11th year of professional League of Legends from the LPL (League of Legends Pro League) in China. With a total of 17 participants, it is the biggest out of all the  LoL tournaments and arguably the most competitive league in the world. The event kickstarted on January 14th, and the initial finish date is March 26th.

LPL Betting Guide 2023

Following the end of 2021, the LPL will have two new entrants: Anyone’s Legend and Weibo Gaming. The first one rebranded its team from Rogue Warriors, while the second bought the spot from Suning, keeping most of the players from the previous lineup. They will be looking to make a good showing in this new season, in one of the best League of Legends tournaments in the world.

In January 2023, NIP was finally able to enter LPL by acquiring equity in the former Victory Five roster. With all of that being said, it is going to be interesting to see whether Ninjas in Pyjamas will be able to turn things around since they joined the League of Legends esports scene back in 2013.

LPL 2023 Format

To maximize your returns with LPL Betting, it is extremely important to understand how LPL tournaments work. The season consists of two regular splits, the Spring and Summer Split, split by the first international tournament of the year, the Mid-Season Invitational.

Both Spring and Summer Split are a single round robin, meaning that all teams will face each other once. All the series will be are best of three, meaning that whoever wins two games gets awarded the points in the standings. Nonetheless, winning games in the lost series is also very important, especially when considering the tie-breakers. If two teams have the same number of series won, ties will be broken by game differential first, and then the two teams head to head records.

In recent years, the Chinese League started adopting a new format for playoffs. With the number of playoff teams increased to 10, the Riot Games and TJ Sports (the organizers behind the LPL) used a double-elimination playoff bracket. Previously, only the top eight qualified for the single-elimination bracket playoffs.

Now, instead, more teams will have the chance to fight for the title, which is essential since championship points are rewarded based on the final standings. The Championship points are vital for teams that want to go to LoL Worlds, as the top seed gets a spot while the rest need to fight for the remaining two in the Regional Finals.

In this tournament, the top 6 in championship points (excluded the teams who already qualified) would go up against each other and mark the end of the LPL season for most teams.

Now that we got the basics out of the way, let’s see which are the best teams going into the 2023 LPL and what are the best strategies to start your own betting on LPL.

LPL Betting Tips and Strategies

The LPL is one of the most competitive League of Legends tournaments, so it might be a little hard to plan out the bets right from the start. With that being said, however, there are a few guidelines that you can consider below.

First of all, the Chinese League is known to be the most chaotic out of all the regions in the world, period. It’s in the teams’ DNA to look for fights whenever they can, and these can blow out all over the map. This is because LPL teams excel at punishing the opponents: once an opening is found, most of the time it always turns into a fight or skirmish. For this reason, the LPL is also one of the bloodiest leagues, with some of the highest kills scores. If you want to start LPL betting, then make sure to check out the LPL odds on the total kills or team kills: your chances will be greater.

Another thing worth looking at is pinpointing the most consistent teams. They will help you understand the other teams relative to a constant benchmark, giving you an idea of how teams will perform against each other in the future. Note that some top teams can be highly volatile and might compromise some of your bets, especially at the beginning of the split.

Nonetheless, considering top teams is always a good thing to start with. Last year, for example, JD Gaming and Top Esports were the top 2 most of the season, and it will likely be the same for 2023. Speaking of top teams, here’s our brief rundown and opinion of the teams for the upcoming 2023 LPL Season.

LPL Power Rankings

LPL has always had a top-heavy list of teams that can dominate most of the season. We previously mentioned EDG and RNG as two teams worth looking at, but they are not the only ones out there. Other organizations like Top Esports, EDward Gaming, and LNG Esports have all demonstrated high potential in the last year. With the roster moves done to all mentioned teams, they will be contenders for the top part of the league: make sure to count them in your LPL bets.

If someone told us that JD Gaming could acquire Ruler from Gen.G, we would call him insane. This is one of the biggest signings for the first split of 2023 and we believe that this addition will propel JD Gaming forward, as they have way too strong of a roster now. LPL organizations have formed some of the most stacked rosters in recent history, and this foreshadows another competitive season yet again.

It is also crucial to mention Top Esports here. We do not have to waste words on how good Rookie actually is. This mid-laner is capable of winning games himself and on his good day, teams stand no chance against Top Esports.

On the other hand, however, having very strong teams also mean that the mid and bottom-tier teams will struggle a lot. Aside from the top 7-8 teams, all the others will have a hard time finding good success. Many of these teams will only find a few victories here and there. This means that these teams’ wins will have very high returns, but they will also be riskier. Diversifying your bets and strategies is always a piece of good advice in esports, even more so in the LPL.

You don’t have to worry about missing out on certain bets. There will always be more opportunities to come! Just make sure to stay updated and watch the games when possible to understand more about the team’s performances and strengths!
