1. ZywOo

As a French member of Team Vitality, Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut is a force to be reckoned with on the CS:GO scene. With so many MVP awards to his name, he is known for his ability to take out multiple opponents with ease. His aim is deadly, and his calm under pressure makes him a valuable asset to his team.

ZywOo’s success on the CSGO scene is a testament to his hard work and dedication. He has proven himself time and again, and his potential for the future is limitless. After finally collecting his Major in CSGO, with an MVP to boot, Zywoo is coming into Counter-Strike as the number one.

2. Niko

Nikola “Niko” Kovâc, one of the top CSGO players for 2023
Nikola “Niko” Kovâc (Image: Stephanie Lindgren – ESL)

With two event victories in 2023 with his long-term organization G2, Nikola “Niko” Kovâc has outshone his teammate M0nesy in performance for the year so far. It’s no secret that Niko isn’t the flashier of the stars on his roster and it’s arguable M0nesy has a few higher peaks, but Niko has a much more consistent output when it comes to stat line.

Always present on the scoreboard, doing his job and then some. Consistency is the name of the game and Niko has a consistently high rating, remaining the best rifler in the world and one of the only ones that can measure up to some of the best awpers in the world while playing on the slightly less prolific of the weapons.

3. Spinx

Having really stepped up as the missing piece for Vitality, Lotan “Spinx” Giladi has outshone even what his Ence performances suggested he might be capable of and it seems he might only just be getting started. After having what would be MVP performances in any other team, Spinx has made himself stand out on a team where that might seem impossible. When you have Zywoo as your teammate just not being overshadowed is a feat unto itself.

Spinx has really stood out as a consistent and demonic Rifle star, really coming into his own in 2023 and taking more of his own space, encouraged by Apex, as Apex disclosed in his reflections with Thorin, to ask for more of the resources and support, to feel the game for himself, which has lead to a big uptick in performance. Some of his plays based on intuition and the crisp mechanics with which he backs these decisions up, are reminiscent of a developing Shoxie, Spinx’s career is one to be watched with great interest.

4. Stavn

The standout on a team that finally secured their second event win this year despite struggles to close in big tournaments, Heroic have been the attempt at a re-enactment of the Astralis of old. The team has no true stars, we won’t argue the semantics of Device here, but so far this year Martin “Stavn” Lund has been putting up the numbers of one. Heroic and Vitality have had horns locked for a while now, both contesting the number one spot, the only thing gating Heroic has been their tendency to fall away and fail to grasp the big trophies. Most argue that they are still the best team, out of context I believe they would be, but if you can’t close it doesn’t matter what you can do when nobody is watching.

Given the context of his team and their performance, there’s an urge to move Stavn higher, but his tendency to disappear in the biggest of moments prevents him from gracing the top 3. This is something that is tied intrinsically to the performance of his team, it feels like if Stavn can conquer his demons there might be no limit to what he and his team could output on some of the world’s biggest Counter-Strike stages.

5. sh1ro

Dmitry "sh1ro" Sokolov, classified as one of the best players in CSGO for 2023
Dmitry “sh1ro” Sokolov (ESL)

As an AWPer for Cloud9, Dmitry “sh1ro” Sokolov is known for his incredible determination and teamwork skills. He was ranked as the third-best player of 2022 and MVP of IEM Katowice 2021, demonstrating his exceptional skills and adaptability on the Counter-Strike scene.

Despite his team’s struggles in some tournaments, sh1ro remains a valuable asset to Cloud9 and a player to watch in 2023.

6. m0NESY

Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov, considered one of the top performing players in 2023 Counter-Strike
Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov (ESL)

As a rising star of Counter-Strike, Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov has quickly made a name for himself in the competitive scene. Playing for G2 Esports, one of the best CS:GO teams, he has demonstrated exceptional skill and game sense, earning him the title of MVP at the World Finals.

At just 14 years old, m0NESY was invited to the FACEIT Pro League, and his talent has only continued to grow since then. With consistent performances and a bright future ahead, he is a player to watch in 2023 and beyond.

7. s1mple

Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev, top CSGO player in 2023
Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev (Blast)

Hailing from Ukraine, Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev is widely regarded as one of the best CS:GO players of all time. With a reputation for lightning-fast reflexes and an aggressive playstyle, he has earned numerous accolades, including the #1 spot on the HLTV rankings in 2022 for the third time.

Despite facing personal and professional challenges, s1mple remains one of the deadliest players in CS:GO. His rifle skills are on par with some of the best in the role despite his tendency to lean on the awp, he has a divisiveness and mechanical proficiency that allows him to break the rules and get away with it, making him a favorite among fans and competitors alike.

8. Sunpayus

An addition to Ence that has truly given Snappi a tool to break into the upper echelons of tier one counter strike, the later addition of his partner in crime in Nertz has made this team a true contender for the top. Alvaro “Sunpayus” Fernández Garcia was an incredible X factor in Ence’s victory over Faze and then Mouz, to win the Org’s third every trophy at IEM Dallas. It felt like after Spinx was bought out by Vitality that Snappi had once again been robbed of the stars he would need to bring his leadership skills to the podium of the top-tier Counter-Strike events. But the ex-Movistar awper has remained consistent and on an upward trend, enacting Ence’s will on his opponents to devastating effect.

Sunpayus is earning a spot amongst the best tier 1 has when it comes to awpers, time and again outputting performances that has the best on the back foot. It’s not a matter of if, but when this player gets bought out by a team looking to bolster firepower for the future, I’m excited to see where he goes next as one of the top 10 Counter-Strike players of 2023.

9. Ropz

The Katowice, the Grand Slam, the Major. Robin “Ropz” Kool has had it all since departing the team he had almost become synonymous with after being discovered on Faceit. But when Karrigan comes calling you answer, and it’s given him naught but success. They say, however, that the hardest part about being number 1 is staying there, and FaZe have looked a shadow of themselves coming into 2023. Whilst they’ve still been one of the big contenders, it’s hard to argue that any of the players have been up to the standard they maintained when they achieved world number one.

Everything has an exception though, and in this case, that is Ropz. Maintaining form despite his team’s downward trend, Ropz has had career-defining performances as of late, most notably keeping Faze in contention for the most recent major vs the likes of NaVi. Before being the only shining light in an otherwise lopsided quarterfinal before Faze’s untimely exit. With Twistzz lacking and rain stumbling, it’s good to see that someone can keep their Kool and make the top 10 Counter-Strike players in 2023.

10. frozen

As one of the youngest players on the professional scene, David “frozen” Čerňanský has already proven himself to be a rising star and a force to be reckoned with. His versatility and adaptability to different playstyles make him a valuable asset to any team he plays for. Fans of Frozen appreciate his impressive gameplay and humble attitude toward the server.

Frozen’s success is a testament to his hard work and dedication. He is constantly pushing himself to improve, and his potential for the future is limitless. It begs the question as to what happened in the off-season for him to remain on Mouz considering he made it into the top 10 CS:GO players in 2023.
