Set in the heart of a dystopian New York City, the Deadlock map is one of the most unique aspects of the title. Maintaining the MOBA theme while bringing its nuance, this Deadlock map guide breaks down every aspect of the map.
Deadlock Map Lanes
Let’s learn how to play Deadlock together. Firstly, the Deadlock map is split into lanes simplifying with colour-coding:
- Yellow Lane (York Avenue)
- Green Lane (Greenwich Street)
- Blue Lane (Broadway)
- Purple Lane (Park Avenue)
These lanes are paths for players to defend or attack, with minions spawning on both sides every 30 seconds.
Designed to help players travel across lanes as quickly as possible, transit lines allow for heroes to traverse forward in a lane from spawn. Only available after a certain cooldown time, these ziplines are perfect for rejoining the action or for getting out of harm’s way to spawn.
Besides transit lines, teleporters allow players to instantly travel between lanes horizontally. With a teleporter in each lane, these allow for instant reinforcements anyway. In addition, ropes and bounce pads allow players to climb up to higher ground quickly.
Due to this flexibility there aren’t fixed Deadlock roles especially depending on the build.
Guardians, Walkers, Shrines & Patrons
With the objective of dominating the four lanes, players must destroy enemy defensive structures in order to reach the enemy base.
While doing so, players protect their minions, or troopers and escort them to the enemy base.
Here are the Deadlock map defensive structures to take down before reaching the Patron:
- Guardian – one in each lane, Guardians rain down fire (literally) to take down enemy troopers and heroes. Once destroyed offer a soul bounty for every alive hero on the team that claims the soul orb.
- Walker – strolling metal automatons, there is one walker in each team’s lane. Destroying them is key in order to earn souls, soul orbs, an ability point and flex slots for abilities.
- Base Guardians – a pair in each lane, Base Guardian defend the Shrines. Very similar to typical Guardians, they offer a speed boost to the attacking team once eliminated.
- Shrines – final stop before the Patron, two Shrines need to be destroyed before moving on to the Patron, earning Souls, an ability point and flex slots for abilities.
As the ultimate goal of every Deadlock map, the Patron is vulnerable after the Shrines are eliminated. Slowly regenerating health over time, the Patron goes through multiple stages while being eliminated, awarding Souls and the match win once destroyed.
Taking down these defense structures involves buying abilities and getting stronger – this is possible through Curiosity Shops scattered through the map.
Tunnels, Juke Rooms and Breakables
Besides the four lanes, multiple other avenues exist on the Deadlock map in what is known as the Jungle lane.
To begin with, tunnels, alleyways and even buildings connect lanes to one another, featuring several possible in-game items or challenges:
- Golden Statues – breakable gold objects with a chance to offer players a permanent stat buff. Spawn in-game after 2 minutes and respawn every 2 minutes.
- Breakables – crates, boxes, Sinner’s Sacrifice and Soul Urns – potentially offer Unsecured Souls. Spawn in-game after 3 minutes and respawn every 3 minutes.
- Juke Rooms – dead-end tunnels around the map indicated by a shadow figure, hiding enemies around the corner.
Also in the jungle lane are neutral denizens in camps and the mid-boss, as discussed below.
Neutral Denizens and the Mid-Boss
When it comes to neutral creeps in the Jungle lane, there’s a lot to look out for.
Neutral Denizens are the main creep, residing in camps across across the Jungle with different levels of difficulty should you fancy farming them for Souls:
- Small Camps – weakest denizens, spawn 3 small creeps, offer low number of souls, easy to kill.
- Medium Camps – slightly stronger, spawn 6 small & medium creeps, offer more souls, harder to kill.
- Large Camps – strongest camps, very difficult to eliminate individually, offer the most souls.
If camps become to easy, the toughest jungle boss is the Mid-Boss. Offering a Rejuvenator buff and a tonne of souls upon being eliminated. With a shield and rejuvenating health, the Mid-Boss requires a coordinated team attack to take down.
The best Deadlock players will master the spawn timing of creeps and the Mid-Boss to make the most of these resources.
Deadlock Mini-Map Guide
Everything you need to know regarding the Deadlock map is summarised in the Deadlock mini-map. Here’s a quick key to help you understand the symbols:
Deadlock Map Feature | Minimap Symbol |
---|---|
Territory | Marked by the particular coloured line of the lane |
Small Camp | Triangle without any lines below |
Medium Camp | Triangle with a line below it |
Hard Camp | Triangle with two lines below it |
Teleporters | Gray box with an arrow |
Curiosity Shops | Green shop icon |
Mid Boss | Yellow icon |
Initial Guardian | Diamond filled |
Walker | Large diamond unfilled |
Guardians | Two diamonds filled |
Shrines and Patrons | Diamonds hollow |
Not everything is marked on the map though, such as the Cosmic Veils. Scattered through the map, these shimmers offer visual one-way views across the map which spices up combat nicely.
In addition, Powerups which spawn in are not indicated on the map, typically spawning near the Urn spawn and dropoff points.
Custom Deadlock Maps
Besides the standard Deadlock maps, custom Deadlock maps are also being created by the community and offer a different approach to the game.
We recommend checking them out should you be interested, especially closer to the Deadlock release date.
