Although Deadlock’s release date has not yet been announced, many players are already asking for the Ranked Mode. Deadlock is currently on a closed playtest and Valve already introduced Deadlock Ranks. The game has its all-time player base peaking at 171k players and currently in a closed playtest. You have to receive an official invitation to play it but that does not stop players from trying out the game.

What is Deadlock Ranked Mode?
According to Valve, the focus of Ranked mode is concentrating players into specific time windows where they can opt into games where the primary focus is on game quality.
Deadlock Ranked Mode provides a more competitive battlefield for players who are looking to improve or be the best in the game. Ranked games also let players test their skills against each other and see how they play among individuals with the same skill level. The higher your rank, the better opponents you will face – all the way to the best Deadlock players.
This mode will help you accurately determine your skill level with medals and levels.
What are Deadlock Ranks?
Deadlock Ranks are composed of 11 medals. Each medal has 6 levels. Every player starts at a rank called Obscurus. This is the rank for players who did not meet the weekly requirement to maintain or gain a medal.
The 11 medals are Initiate, Seeker, Alchemist, Arcanist, Ritualist, Emissary, Archon, Oracle, Phantom, Ascendant, and Eternus. Furthermore, each medal is divided into 6 levels: I, II, III, IV, V, and VI.
There is no official design for each medal yet. The first week of Deadlock Ranks started on October 15 and the medals will be rewarded by October 22. The badge designs are also expected to be revealed by then.
How to play Deadlock Ranked Mode?
For you to be eligible to play Deadlock Ranked, you have to play at least 50 games. If you were penalized with any behavior-related restrictions such as voice bans, text bans, and report misuse, you cannot queue into Ranked mode. Deadlock Ranked mode can only be played solo at the moment. Valve experimented during the early phase of the game and decided to implement specific matchmaking times for this mode.
At first, specific queue times were implemented. Currently the restrictions are loosened and there is ranked mode enabled at almost all times of day. Deadlock Ranked Mode now has weekend-specific hours which will start 5 hours earlier than the normal matchmaking schedule.
How are ranks calculated?
Deadlock Ranks are a bit complicated compared to other games. Here’s a short rundown on how they are calculated:
- Medals are updated every Tuesday at 8 PM GMT, based on your weekly performance and opponent stats for a more accurate skill review.
- You need to play at least 7 games in the week to be eligible for a rank.
How to Climb Deadlock Ranks?
Like any other game, climbing the ranks means constantly improving in the game. Deadlock is no different. But what makes it exciting? A lot of players are still learning the game.
Since the game is still unreleased, not everyone who wants to play Deadlock has access to the game. If you can play Deadlock, you might want to grind those 50 games as fast as you can to be eligible for Ranked Mode. Be sure to have the best Deadlock crosshair before grinding the game.
Once you’re in, your climb starts there. The good thing about the game right now is that you have a smaller competition when it comes to climbing the ranks.
