The ESL Pro Tour is the highest level of international competitive StarCraft 2 tournaments. Hosted by ESL, these events feature the best players from all over the globe as they fight for worldwide dominance.
Across multiple events in the year, players can earn qualification points and a prize pool with one clear goal in mind – making it to IEM Katowice 2023. Also known as the Masters Championship, the event always ends the season with a bang as the final and ultimate stage of the year.
Bearing this in mind, the savory prize pool of $500,000 sits there, waiting in the legendary venue for the best player in the world to claim it.

Format for the IEM Katowice 2023 StarCraft 2 Event
Indeed, StarCraft 2 esports events are known for their lengthy formats – we’ll provide the most important you need to know.
Firstly, on 8th February, a total of 16 players, who failed to directly qualify for the Main Event, will have to fight through the Round of 36. Consisting of a double elimination bracket, by the end of the day, the top 4 will advance to the Main Event Group Stage.

Once in the Group Stage, the four players from the Round of 36 will join the randomized groups as follows:
- A: Clem, Dark, RagnaroK, Neeb, Oliviera + TBD
- B: Reynore, Astrea, Creator, ShoWTimE, GuMiho + TBD
- C: herO, Serral, Solar, DRG, SpeCial + TBD
- D: Maru, Bunny, ByuN, HeRoMaRinE, Lambo + TBD
It’s here that IEM Katowice 2023 StarCraft 2 will truly kick off. Within each group, a round-robin format will take place where each player faces one another once.
All this will occur across the two days of 9th and 10th February.
Once all the best-of-three matches are complete, seeding to the final Playoffs stage is as follows for each group:
- First place – seed to Quarterfinals
- Second-third place – seed to Round of 12
Finally, the Playoffs will conclude the competition. Here, a single-elimination bracket where all competitors have one lifeline will crown a new world champion. Following rounds of BO5 competition starting on 11th February, it all ends on 12th February with a BO7 Grand Final!
