Ubisoft’s new shooter sets ambitious goals in both design, gun play and game design. Since the initial release, we got to test both game modes and an extensive list of maps the developers created.
We all know that maps are the lifeblood of shooters. If the design is trash, even good gunplay gets held down. Here’s all the XDefiant Maps and how they feel.
All XDefiant Maps
There are 2 different types of maps both XDefiant Game Modes that Ubisoft made available to players thus far. They break their 14 (at the time of writing) maps into these two camps. Arena Maps vs Linear Maps
Arena Maps
These maps are designed around having combat at every turn. This is where gunplay and positioning is going to have major consequences. Designed for the Domination, Occupy and Hot Shot maps, constant rotation and fights will have you exploring different areas in the fast-paced battles.
Your current Arena maps alphabetically are:
- Arena
- Attica Heights
- Dumbo
- Echelon HQ
- Emporium
- Liberty
- Mayday
- Nudleplex
- Pueblito
- Showtime
The majority of these are close range encounters. The twitch shooter, scrappy fights that the game has garnered attention for. However, that’s not to say that there’s not maps that you’ll want to keep your distance for.
Linear maps
These maps are designed for objective game modes. Escort and Zone Control are the main game modes you’ll be playing these mats on.
- Meltdown
- Midway
- Times Square
- Zoo
These will have you fighting your way to point A to point B as attackers will try and advance their objective to the end. Games that feature modes like this tend to have you play both sides in XDefiant ranked. Meaning you’ll need to be accustomed to all areas of the map so you’re not betting on the coin flip.
